Caramel Treatment Revisited

So, I’ve tried this treatment 2 more times since my initial post and I’ll say the last time was a success. I used all the same ingredients in the same proportion.

What did I do differently? Well, instead of putting a plastic cap on and sitting under the dryer, I went under the dryer with the treatment on my hair without the plastic cap. I stayed under the dryer until my hair was hard (just like Aphogee). I then thoroughly rinsed my hair out and followed up with a moisturizing deep conditioner.

Like I’ve said before, this treatment stops my breakage dead in it’s tracks. I will continue to do this every 6-8 weeks. It’s a better, cheaper alternative to the expensive brands sold out there.

Caramel Treatment

So about a couple of weeks ago, I tried a caramel treatment after hearing it moisturizes and adds shine. Well, that didn’t work well for me. I actually felt it dried out my hair. I’m not going to completely give it up though. I will be trying it again sometime next month. Here’s what I used:

4 oz baby banana food
2T EVOO
2T honey
1T blackstrap molasses
2 squirts ACV

I went under the dryer for 1 hour with this stuff on and well, I didn’t like it. It didn’t moisturize my hair at all. Maybe it’s something I did wrong? The treatment alone didn’t make my hair any shinier or any easier to straighten. But, I’m not going to give up on it yet. I have enough ingredients to make a second batch so I’ll try again in about a month.

1. Molecular steam
2. Ionic steam

which one do you have?

My Regimen

Like I said, I’ve revamped my regimen:

I shampoo and DC weekly – I use Aphogee Pro-Vitamin Leave In & Green Tea Moisturizer after.
I do a light protein treatment every week – Aphogee 2 Min
Hard protein treatment every couple of months
I take hair, skin and nail vitamins daily
I moisturize and seal every other day
Protective style 24-7

I relax every 3-4 months, only use heat when I relax

added items:

Co-washing – 2x/week
Porosity control – 1 week prior to relaxers

So, it’s been one year since I’ve started my hair care journey. My goal of thickness has been achieved. I am now moving on to length goals.

Re-Vamp My Regimen

So I’ve decided to change my regimen up a bit. Some key things that will be staying are:

Deep Conditioning (moisture) – 1x weekly following light protein treatment
Light Protein Treatment – 1x weekly
Hard Protein Treatment- every 6 to 8 weeks
Vitamins – daily
Moisturizing and sealing – as needed but no less than 2x per week
Relaxer – every 12 weeks

Some things I plan to add are:

Caramel Treatment – Every 3 to 4 weeks
Water – at least 4 glasses daily (hey, I gotta start off slow) lol
Porosity Control – Every 12 weeks right before a relaxer.

I’ve been reading up on the caramel treatment and I believe it will help me to stretch. I will definitely post before and after pics and may even do a video on it depending on how much time I have. I’ve also found that braiding my hair up helps alot with keeping the new growth under control. I feel like I a m just now starting to figure what works and what does. The sad thing is that I’ve been at this hair care thing for one year now.

Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship as a Moisturizer

So, I’m all for finding the perfect moisturizer mix (which I have yet to find…I think). I recently started using HE LTR mixed with diluted water, honey, aloe vera gel & EVOO. I am pleased. I moisturized my hair last night and tonight it’s still moisturized and soft. I think the key is to make the mixture mostly water. Also, another new thing I tried this week is to deep condition with mayonnaise (I added some sea salt). I’m quite pleased with the mayo. It left my hair really shiny. Well, I just wanted to share.

Hello readers, I haven’t been updating awhile but that’s because I haven’t had much going on. I bought this wig about 3 weeks ago and have been wearing it ever since. I keep my hair cornrowed underneath. About once a week I mist it with a mix of fabric softener and twist up the curls overnight. It helps cut down the frizz.

The style is Flora by Silhouette. I ordered a 1b but this brand runs dark so it is more like a 1.
